I have been working with and on computers for about
20 years and there are always people asking me questions
about computers or Internet. So... I have answered a few
of these common questions on some of my web pages. I was employed by IBM for several years as an IBM CE (Customer Engineer). That was work, work, work and the Best Job and the most fun I have ever had. When working for "Big Blue", and the PT (portable terminal,... Brick, Ball & Chain, Oversized 2-way pager) sounded the series of Beeps, I knew it was my next call. Now days they use Cell Phones. (I will never forget the "deedle-deedle-dee sound" that it makes) And when I went to that call for an IBM customer, it was strictly business, repair the machine, do it right the first time, and get out of the customers way so he or she or all of them can go back to work, and do all of this in only a few minutes! Some of the time the customer was very unhappy when their computer failed, but they knew "Rusty" would be there shortly after their computer or whole system went down... and they sure were happy twice after that.... one, when they would see me enter their building and.... two, when their problem was fixed & I turned on the power to their machine & it worked again! Machine defination: Desktop computer, server, Terminal, Network Controler, Mid systems computer, Cash Register, Printer or even a Check Sorter. Well... I survived many layoffs and finally one got me... the one that said "Cutbacks are now down to geographical locations". It was June, 1996. I will never forget the fond memories of International Business Machines. Special Thanks to Dan Tripp, Bill Grady, and everyone that I worked with. |
